WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE
Sanook in Thai means fun. We use it to express the pleasure we have had eating street food at one of our favorite spots on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok. Soi 38, or street 38, is a place of myriad culinary pleasures, where any Thai food your heart desires is at your command. Our kitchen is located on 11419 Santa Monica Blvd., West Los Angeles, CA 90025.

Meet Noppakate Donaldson of Sanook

Meet Noppakate Donaldson of Sanook
The origin of my recipe is my hometown, Had Yai. It's part of Songkhla province in the south of Thailand. My house was close to a farm. and the farm belonged to my friend's family. Most of my evenings, I would spend my time with my friend on her farm, helping her plant any sprouts in the soil and cultivate them. In 2003, I left my public relation and marketing career in Thailand to be with my American husband. My first 4 months in Santa Monica were all about exploring the beautiful, sunny city. I went to different Thai restaurants in Santa Monica and was very disappointed with the food they served. All the food is not real Thai; too sweet, with lots of soy sauce!! Every time I wanted to have real authentic Thai food, I had to take a bus (I didn't have a driving license yet) to Thai Town. It would be approximately more than two hours going back and forth. Still, some of those Thai restaurants were not worth a two-hour bus. I thought to myself, one day I will have my place cooking all authentic, original Thai that I have grown up with. So, I started to look for a job at a Thai restaurant to learn what they do good and bad. In 2014, with a small budget, I opened my food truck, Sanook (meaning Joyful, Fun) in Santa Monica, and 2019 I expanded Sanook to a ghost kitchen restaurant on Santa Monica Blvd.

I love Sanook Soi, which has been my go-to place for Thai food since its beginnings as a food truck. It's the real thing, not messed with Thai food for people who eat pineapple on pizza. I always get the panang curry and rad na, but everything on the menu is delicious. Great people and great food keep me coming back for more!

Just ordered for delivery and the food was amazing! The Pad Thai is flavorful. They separate ice for my Thai Iced Tea so that it won't melt when it delivered. Will definitely order again.

Best Thai Food in LA! I tried the pork noodles and have been coming back ever since. If you're looking for authentic Thai food, prepared with care and quality ingredients, Sanook will not disappoint. Highly recommended if you're in West LA.

Amazing! I grew up eating Thai food since I was a child every day and to me, it was very close to the food I ate. Definitely closes in America that I tasted so far.
